Overview

Schools

There is no shortage of schools in Olympia, from primary schools right up to the prestigious University of Zambia (UNZA), which is right across Great East Road from the centrally-located suburb. The Lusaka Apex Medical University also has an Olympia campus, which adds to the student population in the area.

Coming down from higher education, Olympia is home to a number of primary and secondary schools, the most prestigious being the Lusaka International Community School (LICS). Other schools to note include Pinewood Preparatory School, Son-Shine School and Little Jewels Preschool. The British International Primary school (BIPS) is also within the area. With all these choices for schooling options, Olympia is a prime location for families with children, as beating the “school rush” does not take too much time.

The centrality of Olympia gives it access to a wide range of shopping solutions, both along Great East Road and in surrounding areas. Arcades Shopping Mall, Manda Hill, and EastPark Mall are all less than 15 minutes away, and they all host events such as cultural markets or night markets for a variety of tastes.

In surrounding areas, Olympia neighbors Northmead market, which is close to the popular Melisa supermarket. Heading eastwards, there is the neighboring Bakery (Jesmondine), Zambezi Mall (Kalundu), and Foxdale Court, which all also have various activities and events throughout the year.

Hospitals

Olympia has access to a number of different healthcare facilities in and around the area. Coptic Hospital – one of Lusaka’s more modern facilities – is nearby, and in neighboring Rhodespark, there are both Medland and Care for Business (CFB) Hospital. Victoria Hospital, located in Kalundu, is also within close proximity.

Special Attractions (Restaurants, etc.)

As mentioned in the Shopping Malls section, the various malls in and around Olympia are always bustling with activity. Perhaps the most prominent example is the Manda Hill night market, which is a showcase of both food and music, which happens monthly. Other places to eat that frequently have events include PJ’s BBQ Joint, Corner Café, and the recently-opened Try Lounge, Try Rooftop and Urban Masai, all offer different eating and drinking experiences. Cremosa, located on Manda Hill Road, is a Halaal restaurant also located in the area.

Other points of interest in Olympia include the Parliament building – which adds to the area’s security – Mulungushi International Conference Center, which has multiple events and activities throughout the year, and the evergreen Showgrounds, which hosts the annual Agricultural Show and other activities as well.
